Google Maps and Waze will stop getting lost in the Madrid tunnels. All thanks to Bluetooth tags

You drive in an area that you do not know and you guide yourself with an application like Google Maps or Waze. It is true that we cannot trust them blindly, but they are always very useful systems not to get lost. The problem comes when we lack GPS signalEspecially when this happens in a fairly extensive road area. This is what vehicles circulating on the M30 suffer daily when they cross its vast tunnels.

A solution to prevent this from happening in the tunnels is to enjoy the Bluetooth tags, compatible with the two applications that we cited a little more. So far, the M30 tunnels have not had this technology, but as announced by the municipal council itself, It's something that will change very soon.

It ended this to get lost through the Madrid tunnels

When we enter a tunnel (and above all, when they are long), the applications with GPS predict our position according to the speed we had during the input. This measure works, But its result leaves enough to be desiredEspecially if it is a road with bifurcations where we can get lost with relative ease.

The tip to see the price of tolls in Android Auto has become essential for me: I just need to have waze in my Android

A few months ago, we already told you that the Madrid municipal council was preparing for the installation of these beacons, but without defined date for this. He did not have until today on April 7, when this public entity finally announced the start of his installation, starting today.

As the municipal council explains, the installation of these beacons will save the limits which aim to install an infrastructure of GPS repeaters, which require external antennas. The creation of a network of Bluetooth beacons is much easier, so much so that, although the M30 tunnels have a considerable distance, the municipal council estimates that Its complete installation will end in June.

The installation will consist in placing these Bluetooth tags At a distance between 20 and 40 meters. They will be on the sides of the tunnel, at the height where the cable trays are located. To do this, aluminum media will be used which will be fixed at these trays.

How can we use tags? Waze has been compatible with them for several years, although Google Maps has also added this feature a few months ago. Of course, in the case of the latter, The option is deactivated by default. These are the steps to follow to activate it:

  • In Google Maps, we have to click on our profile photo.
  • A menu will appear. We have to click on the settings.
  • Inside, we go directly to navigation.
  • Now it only remains to search for the 'option'Bluetooth tunnel beaconsAnd activate it. We will have to grant permits.

In Xataka Android | I have been using Waze and Maps for years and I have clear it: Google should unite them to create the final GPS supernavigator

In Xataka Android | I installed here Wego in my Android Auto and convinced me for its simplicity and this function that Waze did not
