  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

I know, and the main reason for it having happened is due to no other of the great European powers bothered to come to their help.

Given the situation of Finland, caught between two predominate evils in the area, they made the best deal with a devil possible.

Mind you, I do not agree with the choice they made, but given the studies I have done, and the alternative-history of the winter war I have written, I do understand it from their perspective of the time.

It's not interesting. Notice how it's not SUPPOSED to be a debate?

The topic is "SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AMERICANS ARE THE BEST"

So unless you like to give regular blowjobs to troops like Rick and tenguy, what's the point of the topic? They don't want to discuss anything.

But through language that was intentionally inflammatory, you got yourselves baited into a non-topic

I don't find spamming the board with trash to be "bringing life" into the forum.

    For Kimiko and DL; quoting from The United States Strategic Bombing Survey report;
War sucks. It's dirty, horrible, good people die, and it's expensive. The US did not ask for the war. The US didn't want the war. But, when forced, we fought.

    DL, I'll save you the trouble of whipping out your tired quotes from military leaders like Eisenhower;

Yes, many in the US military command were against use of atomic weapons. Many in Truman's administration were against it. Many of the scientists who developed it were against using it.

The fact is, even the most conservative estimates showed that Millions of Allied and Japanese military and hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians would die if we invaded. Waiting 4 months (had we known) for Japan to surrender would have led to more Allied and Japanese deaths. In one night firebombing Tokyo, we killed more Japanese than both atomic bombs did.

Allied deaths as a result of dropping the bombs? Zero. None. Nada.

War is hell, it's a good reason why we should avoid electing anyone to a position of authority who isn't a veteran. The rest of us cannot imagine the horror we can unleash on each other.

And I have two Uncles, one buried in England, the other buried in the Pacific. My dad also fought in the Pacific.

You bring criticism of the US role in WWII to this blog at your own risk. I take your incorrect, slanted, bullshit criticism personally.

But I'll debate with you any time.

    That's absolutely correct.

However, there is also no point in second guessing the reactions to the barbaric atrocities committed by both the Japanese and the Germans in WWII.

Tens of millions died, on both sides of the war, tens of millions more were completely homeless, penniless and left with only shreds of their former families.

Some were also interned unjustly, they were few but they survived.

But for those who served and often died, for their countries, placed their by the political ambitions of their government, they do deserve out thanks and admiration.

ROM my post was not a "bait post". You are a cynical jerk. I have seen you make stupid assumptions in the past but for the most part I ignore your silly ass. If you had as much brain as you think you have, it would not fit in even your big head. You are what is known as an educated fool. BTW if you consider a post honoring our Veterans is "trash" it is because you are a fucking anti-American prick. I wish you had the opportunity to do a hitch in the military.

*sigh* I realize that's what your brother was told, what you were told, and it's the party line to this day. But there was no reason to target innocent civilians, as we did both in Japan and in Germany.

And that business about an invasion of Japan is a false choice. We didn't need to do either one.

Tenguy, it's not my purpose here to diss the troops. But there are times when, late at night, I wonder whether the whole mantra about "supporting the troops" is just a way to keep people signing up, by convincing people clinging to the bottom rung of the economic ladder that the thing to do is volunteer for the military. And they way they convince them is to constantly talk about what unsung heroes they are, and how they're fighting for "our freedom". That might have been true in World War II, but I submit that it was the LAST time it was true.

Further, I don't think the way to combat atrocities on the part of your enemy is to commit a few of your own. I thought we were supposed to be better than that.

Kimi, dead horse, stop beating it.

You nor I, nor anyone else can possibly KNOW what Japan would have done if they had not surrendered when they did. We can only hypothesize.

That certainly rules out any Republican candidates. Unless you want to include George W. Bush.

And while we waited, more death. No. What happened was a reaction to the actions of Japan.

"Our freedom" was really not directly at stake in WWII. The freedom of our allies and those that we swore to support was seriously at stake.

The British Isles may not have been directly threatened after 1940, but their allies and trading partners in Europe were. Sometimes it is hard to visualize just how small a geographic area Europe is. Everything that happens in one state effects another dramatically.

Once war breaks out, no matter who causes it or who is wronged, everything changes. Emotions and the will to survive negate almost all previously held sense of fair play.

Hindsight is wonderful, but we don't have it before an event occurs. Unfortunately, it is also slanted to fit our particular belief of the current moment.
